There really should be a simple device out there that does this and the cheapest i can lay my hands on is a £200 super machine. So, what's happening, you have moved to a country like Germany or Australia from the UK , you get a great picture but no sound. The differences between the various PAL's out there like PAL I ,PAL M,PAL N,PAL B/G is purely the way the sound is carried or the frequency it is set to.

A simple solution is to buy the local Video recorder in your new country which you probably would anyway and use the tuner in it to choose the channels ( you must make sure that the VCR has a remote so you can flick between the channels). The VCR becomes your tuner but you output via the AV outputs at the back of your VCR. By bypassing the tuner completely and avoiding any contact with the aerial leads on your TV , you will be able to watch the programs in full colour and sound.

A neater solution is a dedicated Tuner box with remote, it can be set to the PAL region you are in and output in VGA. Many TV's have this option now ( the 15pin D-Type input you find on most computer monitors). If you have this option and do not wish to use a bulky VCR as your tuner then have a look at the recommendation. Remember, models will vary for the region that you require.
